Mole Checks & Dermatoscopy

A mole check is painless and usually takes a few minutes. As well as being looked at with the naked eye, the skin is examined with a dermatoscope: a device with magnification and special lighting that shows structures you cannot see on an ordinary inspection. Whether a mole needs monitoring or removal is decided after the examination.

Consultations in Sofia (Strelbishte) in English, French, Spanish and Bulgarian.

My approach

„I have completed a dermatoscopy course, and in Paris I worked with skin tumours. That is why I assess every lesion with a dermatoscope as well, not only with the naked eye.“

— Dr. Stefany Kraevska

Good to know

  • 1

Most moles are benign, and the check usually ends with reassurance.

  • 2

Follow the ABCDE rule and photograph any changes. A dated photo is a useful reference.

  • 3

A new mole that appears after the age of 40 always deserves a check.

After the consultation

You will know which lesions to watch, how and how often. If necessary, we schedule a follow-up check or further tests.

Prices and duration depend on the individual case and are confirmed when you book.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have my moles checked?

It depends on your personal risk. People with many moles, fair skin, a previous skin tumour or a family history have checks more often. The interval is set after the first examination.

Is the examination painful?

No. The examination is non-invasive and completely painless.

What happens if a mole looks suspicious?

We discuss the next steps openly: monitoring with a dermatoscope, or referral for removal and histological examination.
